Blissful Ordinariness
When most people hear the words "occupational therapy", they think about people getting back to completing everyday task. These task are often overlooked, because they just come natural to us. When I hear the words "blissful ordinariness", I think of the things we do on a day to day basis that hold value and purpose. These are ordinary things that we do, but we may not realize how much work goes into it. Sometimes we tend to neglect the importance of having the ability to do the things we do on a daily basis, such as bathing, cooking, and attending school.
As an occupational therapist, it is our job to help individuals complete their everyday activities. Our profession views our clients as an entire person, not just what is wrong with them. We take the time to have meaningful interactions with our clients and learn who they are as a person. We use this holistic approach in therapy to allow the clients to work on activities that they deem important and meaningful. We build strong therapeutic relationships with our clients in order to bring the "blissful ordinariness" into their lives. In my opinion, that is what makes this field so unique and special.
