The Setting I’m Most Interested In

In today’s lecture we learned about all the different possible OT settings we could potentially be working in. There are a few that stood out to me, but one specifically that I am most interested is the school systems. I completed my internship in undergrad at a public school system and I knew that is exactly where I wanted to be.
I really enjoyed working in school system, because we spent majority of our time helping students become more functional in a classroom setting. We worked with students ranging from age 3 all the way to 22. Majority of our clients were in preschool, so we worked on early intervention to help prepare them for the next step in their lives. My favorite part of OT in the school setting is that you get to help students become successful in learning. We worked on pre-handwriting and handwriting skills which play a key role in education. Now that computers and iPads are being required for students, OTs are starting to work on typing as well.
Whether or not its in a school system or outpatient rehab setting, I would love to work with pediatrics. I am interested in learning about growing and development in children and how OTs can help make a difference in their lives.
